A celebration of the life, voice, and legacy of George “FIJI” Veikoso — the King of Island Reggae, whose music became the soundtrack of our lives across the Pacific and beyond.
For nearly four decades, Fiji was recognized as the pioneer of Pacific sound — blending island influences with reggae, R&B, hip-hop, and jazz into a voice that carried across oceans. Of Fijian and Tongan descent, he moved to Hawaiʻi in 1987 and rose from the Hawaiian Style Band into a solo career that earned him multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards and a Grammy nomination.
He mentored a generation of Pacific Islander artists — J Boog, Common Kings, Maoli — and insisted that the crowd never cheered for him, but for his home country. His mission, until the end, was to uplift Indigenous rights, culture, and language.
